On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Rebecca Turner Academy held a graduation dinner for seniors who graduated in January at Vybez Restaurant. This event gave graduates the opportunity to dress nicely and celebrate all of their accomplishments with family, friends and school staff.

Rebecca Turner Academy Celebrates 1st Quarter Success

Rebecca Turner Academy recently hosted its 1st Quarter Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance Assembly, bringing together families and staff to celebrate student achievement. Certificates were awarded to students earning Principal’s Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. In addition, students who demonstrated perseverance and a commitment to doing their best received On A Roll certificates.

Rigorous Instruction RTA Early Childhood Classes

Special-education kindergarten teacher Ms. Battaglia and teaching assistant Ms. Hunter were locked in with their scholars during one-to-one instruction, helping them practice writing the letter H, the number 4, and building early literacy skills by identifying letters and words. The focus, the patience and the joy in the room made it clear that rigorous instruction starts early at Rebecca Turner Academy!

RTA with Literacy Across Content Areas

The scholars in Ms. Gomes’s fourth-grade class showed up big with their New York State research projects. They blended literacy, social studies and technology standards like pros, building real-world skills while digging into state history. This is rigorous instruction with a purpose -- and our scholars crushed it.

Families share 'grateful leaves' messages at Rebecca Turner Academy

The Rebecca Turner Academy's main entrance is blooming with gratitude! Parents and family members took a moment during arrival and dismissal on Thursday, November 6, to write heartfelt messages on “grateful leaves” in English, Spanish and Arabic, sharing what they’re most thankful for. Each leaf was lovingly added to "The Giving Tree," a beautiful reminder that our community grows stronger through appreciation, unity and love. 

Throwback to the ‘90s: RTA stands up against bullying in honor of Red Ribbon Spirit Week

Rebecca Turner Academy scholars, teachers, and administrators are taking it back to the 1990s for Red Ribbon Spirit Week! From denim jackets, neon colors, overalls, and flannel, to classic hip-hop and pop vibes, RTA is celebrating the decade of confidence and individuality, while standing united against bullying. The school community is showing that kindness never goes out of style!

RTA pre-K students visit Orchard Farms for apple-picking

Prekindergarten students in Landa Hunter's and Leida Plaza’s class took a fun and educational trip to Orchard Farms in Newburgh, New York, last Friday. Students picked different kinds of apples, ate apple cider donuts and took a tractor ride through the orchard for a full day of excitement!

Benjamin Turner Academy holds Career Day for eager students

Dozens of Benjamin Turner Academy students shouted with delight as police sirens blared during the annual Career Day, which brought a contingent of officers, firefighters and other people from various fields to give the children a glimpse of their possible futures.
